Organic Data - 2025
Threshold Exhibition
Northsite Contemporary Art, Cairns, Qld, Australia
An immersive installation using found and repurposed materials, ecological imagery, light, and sound. Exploring the invisible communication network between trees and mycelium in our forests via historic pianola rolls that I have screen printed. All brought to life through contemporary digital music.
Organic Data reflects on the exposed tree roots and transformed landscape following Cyclone Jasper and the 2023 floods in Cairns. The erosion left trees stranded at the threshold between land and sea.
Throughout 2024, I documented these trees at Holloways Beach, creating ecological drawings and photograps that were screen-printed onto historic pianola rolls.
The shadows cast by the rolls reveal illuminated music notes that evoke coded messages—mirroring the underground mycelial networks through which trees communicate.
A soundscape accompanied this installation:

Created by music producer Orange Peel Music, this piece blends piano music from the pianola rolls with field recordings from Holloways Beach, setting the scene perfectly. This soundscape created such a peaceful atmosphere in the gallery space.

A soundscape, blending synthesised music and field recordings from the beach, completes this exploration of nature’s cycles and interconnectedness.
