Resilience In the Face of Adversity Exhibition
Mulgrave Gallery, Cairns, Qld, Australia
Protection Cloaks explores resilience through the personal stories of ten local Cairns women. Each cloak, screen-printed with botanical motifs, reflects a journey of grief, healing, and growth, linking nature with human experience. The immersive installation features a soundscape made by Orange Peel Music, with the voices of the women themselves, creating a deeper connection to their stories. You can have a listen to the soundscape here: https://soundcloud.com/orange-peel/resilience-soundscape
Rice paper 'key' pieces displayed alongside the cloaks further tie the botanical designs to each narrative.
A special part of this project has been collaborating with my mother, Lidwina, a talented seamstress who sewed each cloak by hand. Her deep connection to plants and her attention to detail were essential in bringing this project to life.
