Symbiosis - 2023
A large-scale installation at Artview Gallery in Cairns, QLD, Australia.
Nine historic pianola rolls hung like tree trunks along the gallery wall, each screenprinted with lichen.
At the center, a stone circle invites visitors to sit and immerse themselves, sitting upon the central rock from which contains speakers playing a soundscape of piano music sourced directly from the pianola rolls, interwoven with experimental sounds and spoken words that explore the fascinating world of lichen.
On the opposite wall mirroring the pianola rolls are nine framed artworks on paper. Each piece screen-printed with lichen and intricately crafted 3D lichen cut-outs, beautifully collaged to create depth and texture.
